St Michael's Catholic and Church of England High School - Following Jesus Together

Technology

Technology is taught in purpose-built rooms which have all been upgraded. They include areas for Resistant Materials, Graphic Media, Food Technology, Textiles Technology and Business Studies. Each area is staffed by a specialist teacher and the Faculty has the advantage of Technician support.

Pupils in Years 7, 8 and 9 use the Technology subjects including Information Technology to follow the National Curriculum Programmes of Study.  Pupils will progress on to courses that will be examined externally in Years 10 and 11.

The faculty's starting point is that children learn most effectively through practical experience. The approach to each area is Design based. This encourages logical thought processes, analytical skills, communication of ideas, an appreciation of life and its demands, together with an awareness of pupil?s own needs.

Currently, all pupils, with guided choice, continue to study Technology in Years 10 and 11, for which various courses up to and including GCSE level will be offered.

In order that the pupils may derive the maximum benefit from all the courses offered they must bring materials whenever required, particularly for Food Technology where, for obvious reasons, a comprehensive stock cannot always be carried.
