St Michael's Catholic and Church of England High School - Following Jesus Together

Outdoor Education

It is the policy of the school that every child will have the opportunity to be involved in at least one curriculum-related residential experience and it is hoped that all our young people will accept this challenge when offered.

There are a number of different activities organised, some involving the whole school, others a particular year group or groups. These vary in length and in the activities undertaken. There will be opportunities for visits abroad. (See also Foreign Language statement).
Some shorter visits are held mainly at weekends, where the emphasis is very much on living as a group and being considerate to others but may include canoeing, sailing, rock climbing and orienteering.

Pupils in Year 7 have the opportunity to go away as a group, getting to know their Form Tutors and Year Head better, learning about themselves and their fellow class mates while enjoying various religious, subject-related and outdoor activities. It is hoped that as many pupils as possible from Year 7 will wish to take part.
Every effort is made to ensure that appropriate insurance and safeguards are taken and advice is sought from the local Education Authority as a matter of course.

Pupils in Year 10 are given the opportunity to enter the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and complete the Bronze Award.
